What was needed
Fortuna Hostel is a hostel in Vilnius with a website in Lithuanian, English and Russian. The site had no booking option of its own and no way to collect reviews, and the staff could not manage the gallery themselves.
The site ran without a secure connection (https), on outdated WordPress and PHP versions, and in the Russian version some buttons led to pages in another language and one link was broken.
What I built
- A booking window inside the site: the hostel's own FrontDeskMaster booking system is embedded in the Lithuanian, English and Russian booking pages, and links that used to lead to Booking.com now lead to the site's own booking page.
- A photo gallery with its own admin screen: the staff add, arrange and remove photos and write their captions in three languages, also from a phone.
- The main home-page photo is changed with one save in the gallery, in every language at once.
- Four new photos of the building prepared for the web and placed on the home page, in the slider and in the gallery in every language.
- A Google review link and QR code on the "How to find us" pages.
- A guest reminder e-mail two days before arrival, set up in the booking system.
- A technical upgrade: a secure connection (https), a newer PHP version, updated WordPress and plugins, with a full backup of the site made before any work.
- Russian version fixes: buttons lead to the Russian booking page, duplicate menu items removed, the broken link repaired.
- All work was first built and tested on a password-protected copy of the site, moved to the live site only with the client's approval, and then every page was checked on phone, tablet and desktop.
What the client can now do themselves
- Change gallery photos, their order and captions, also from a phone.
- Change the main home-page photo.
- Edit the text of the guest reminder e-mail in the booking system.
- Manage bookings, prices and availability in their own booking system, which the site shows by itself.
